Battlefield 1943

March 30, 2009 · Filed Under battlefield bad company · 1 Comment

Even if you have not ever played the original Battlefield, Battlefield 1943 should feel very familiar to any gamer who have spent a decent amount of time playing role-playing games online.

The basic gameplay of Battlefield 1943 has not fundamentally changed. Gamers will still require to take over control points by using the special abilities of their class and whatever armed vehicle may be close at hand. Two teams that represent the Axis and the Allies play a game of tug of war. They try to take and maintain a hold on those capture points as long as possible.

In overall scope the Battlefield 1943 does not approach in the same scale as of the Battlefield 1942. The maps in Battlefield 1943 are just as big and no elements of the gameplay. Yes, there is the exception of the class system. The game is just that there are only three maps and all are totally focused around the island battles of the Pacific between the Allies and Japan. It is seen that this slimmed-down game is a far cry from a full remake of the original. It has to be leaner to fit onto XBLA as a download game.

The debut trailer of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is not so zany

March 29, 2009 · Filed Under battlefield bad company · Comment

In year 2008 Battlefield: Bad Company had promos that made fun of fellow action games Gears of War and also of Metal Gear Solid. But yes, not to forget that the debut trailer for Bad Company 2 plays it straight.

The first game was somewhat had an off-beat story board about a soldiers that were stealing gold from a warzone and the sequel of the game is likely a continuation of the storyline. But remember one thing that gamers wouldn’t know it from this trailer. It is just a few stylized shots of tanks that were trading fire and of course other generic war stuff like that. There is no footage of the gameplay or anything of such.

Bad Company 2 is going to be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC this winter. It is one of three Battlefield games on the way. The other two games are microtransaction-supported Battlefield Heroes and the Battlefield 1943 that is downloadable.

Rapid growth of digital download in past few years

Digital download services growth on consoles in past couple of years means publishers, and even the developers can explore several ways to offer new experiences. Not only this, they can also rewind back to familiar old ones, may be a classic arcade game or the return of the dual-stick shooter.

Sierra, Konami and Namco have been on board from the initial stage with numerous titles, but Electronic Arts was not quick enough to the draw. It dabbled into the digital download with the less than stellar Wing Commander Arcade and its Fantasy Football applications. But yes, besides this, it looked as if the company was not focusing on console digital titles.

From the beginning of this year, however, EA has made a significant turnaround and it has also significantly ramped up releases. The first one was with NHL 3-On-3 Arcade, then the upcoming Hasbro Family Game Night, and now its Battlefield 1943.

The official website of the Battlefield: Bad Company recently announced shooter sequel Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It leads to a pre-order page on GameStop. The release date given on the website is September 9, 2009, though the CEO of EA, John Riccitiello said that the game is going to hit the stores in April 2010. Of course, GameStop has been known to publish inaccurate launch dates.

But… it could very well mean that EA might be pushing the days to get this one on the market as soon as possible.

No game should be rushed out the door. EA knows that best of all.
